Polace is one of the most ancient villages on the island, and is the largest and most sheltered harbour not only on Mljet but elsewhere. It is surrounded by 4 islands. It's one of the most favourite places visited by sail and other boats. Polace  has a number of ancient ruins dating from the 1st to the 6th Centuries. However, of greatest significance is the Roman palace from 2nd Century whose walls dominates the place. In Polace there are a few restaurants, supermarkets, souvenir shops, Tourist board office and a kiosk of the National Park.
